  • Rationale for optimizing treatment and the importance of treating to targets.

  • Appropriate methods for making diagnosis of hypertension.

  • Evidence-based threshold and target blood pressure.

  • New guidelines for hypertension management including: Use of longer-acting over shorter-acting diuretics and single pill combinations as a first-line treatment.
